A passkey is a verification method that lets you sign in to your Paribu account with face recognition, your fingerprint, or your device password instead of entering a password or a verification code. If you got an error while creating one, the most common reasons are that a passkey is already defined for the device and that the device does not support passkeys.
A passkey creation error usually stems from a passkey already being defined for the same device, the device not supporting passkeys, or a temporary technical issue. The warning you see on the screen tells you which situation you are in; updating the existing passkey, or removing it and creating it again, resolves most of the issues.
| What you see on the screen | What it means | What you should do |
|---|---|---|
| Passkey could not be added — "You already have a passkey for this device. You can update the existing passkey or delete the previous one if you want to replace it" | A passkey is already defined for this device | Continue using the existing passkey, or remove it and create it again |
| Passkey could not be added — "Passkey could not be created. Please try again." | Temporary technical issue | Apply the steps below and try again |
| Not supported — "This device does not support passkeys." | The device does not support passkeys | Use the alternative verification methods |
| "You have reached the maximum number of passkeys. Please remove an existing one." | The number of passkeys has reached the upper limit | Remove a passkey you do not use |
A second passkey cannot be added for one device. When you get this warning:
Note: Removing one passkey does not affect your passkeys on other devices; the passkey of each device is independent
This warning is usually temporary. Apply the following steps:
If the issue persists, you can try creating a passkey on a different device.
If you got the Not supported warning, it means your device does not support passkey technology. Creating a passkey is not mandatory; instead you can use the following methods:
If you do not have a passkey, security verification is done with the other methods defined on your account.
Tap the menu (≡) icon at the top left of the screen to reach the Account section, then follow Account and settings → Security settings → Passkeys.
On this screen your passkeys are listed with the Device name and Created date columns. Each row has two actions:
To add a new passkey you can use the Create new passkey button at the bottom of the screen. If you have no passkeys at all, the Create your passkey introduction screen opens instead of this screen; you can start with the Create passkey button or skip it with Later.
When the verification cannot be completed at sign-in, you see the title Passkey sign-in could not be completed and two buttons: with Try again you can restart the biometric verification, and with Use a different method you can switch to verification with a code.
If your passkey is not working properly, you can try removing it from the security settings and creating it again.
If you still cannot create a passkey despite applying the steps above, start the live support chat through Paribu Support and share your device model, your operating system version, and the warning text you see on the screen.
Yes. A separate passkey can be defined for each device; however, one device has only one passkey.
You do not lose your access. If there is no passkey, verification is done with the other method defined on your account — the code from your authenticator app if one is set up, and otherwise the code sent to your phone or your email.
No. You can use your account without creating a passkey; verification is done with the other methods. A passkey is recommended because it both speeds up sign-in and raises your security level.
The device name must be between 3 and 40 characters. With names outside this range the Save button does not become active.
