What is the account security level and how to raise it

Your Paribu account security level is evaluated at three tiers based on the verification methods you have enabled: Critical, Medium, and Secure. This indicator highlighted in your security settings summarizes which of two-factor authentication, passkey, and biometric authentication are active; when you complete the missing steps, your account gains stronger protection.

What is the account security level?

The account security level is an indicator determined by the verification steps active on your Paribu account. It is shown at the top of the security settings screen as Critical, Medium, or Secure; the progress bar next to it shows how many security steps you have completed. The same area also offers the next recommended step and a short shortcut to reach it.

The indicator helps you understand the overall protection level of your account at a glance. When a step is missing, a recommendation text guiding you to the relevant setup screen also appears next to the progress bar.

How is the security level calculated?

The security level is calculated based on three criteria: two-factor authentication, passkey, and biometric authentication. Your level is determined by how many of these criteria are active; if none is enabled, it is shown as Critical, if one or two are active as Medium, and if all three are active as Secure.

Criterion	Description
Two-factor authentication (2FA)	Sign-in and critical action approval with a 6-digit code generated by an authenticator app
Passkey	Identity verification with your face, fingerprint, or device password instead of your password
Biometric authentication	Fast in-app verification with Face ID or fingerprint

Level mapping:

Critical: None of the three criteria is active
Medium: One or two of the three criteria are active
Secure: All three criteria are active

The progress bar shows the number of completed criteria divided by the total number of criteria. For example, if two criteria are active, the indicator shows 2/3.

Security levels and their meanings

Each security level corresponds to a different protection level. The Critical level indicates that your account lacks basic verification protections, the Medium level shows that some steps have been completed, and the Secure level shows that all recommended security steps are active.

Critical. None of the recommended security layers is active on your account. In this case, since critical actions such as crypto asset withdrawals proceed without additional verification beyond the password, the account remains vulnerable to password compromise scenarios. If the level appears in this color and label, it is recommended to set up two-factor authentication as soon as possible.

Medium. One or two of the recommended security layers are active. Your account is under basic protection, but not all recommended steps have been completed. By enabling the missing criteria, you can move your account to a stronger protection.

Secure. All three security layers are active and your account is at the highest recommended protection level. In this case, the indicator shows the message "You have completed the recommended security steps". When you disable one of the security layers, the level automatically drops.

How can you raise your security level?

To raise your security level, you need to activate the verification criteria not yet enabled. When all three criteria are activated, the level rises to Secure. There is no required order; you can start with whichever method is most convenient for you.

To raise your security level, complete the following steps:

Set up two-factor authentication via an authenticator app
Create and manage a passkey on your device

The detailed setup of each step is described in the related article. When you activate a criterion, your security level is automatically updated; you do not need to take any additional action.

Note: It is recommended to first set up two-factor authentication, which protects your account sign-in; then add a passkey and biometric authentication to make every action step on your account fast and secure.

Which screen can I see it on?

You can view your account security level on the Paribu app by going to the Security settings screen from the menu icon at the top left of the screen. The area at the top of the screen shows your current level, the number of completed steps, and any next recommended step.

To view your security level, follow these steps:

Tap the menu icon at the top left of the screen to open My account
Tap Account and settings
Tap Security settings
Your security level and progress bar appear at the top of the screen
If a next recommended step is available, you can tap it to go to the relevant setup screen

Frequently asked questions

What happens when my security level changes?

Your security level is automatically updated based on the verification steps you enable or disable. For example, when you disable two-factor authentication, the level drops one tier and is listed again at the top of the screen as the next recommended step.

Is being at the Secure level enough for crypto withdrawals?

The Secure level means you have completed all recommended verification steps and is the highest recommended protection level. However, for critical actions such as crypto asset withdrawals, two-factor authentication or passkey approval is requested separately in any case, regardless of your security level.

Do I need to check my security level regularly?

Since your security level is automatically updated along with your verification steps, regular checks are not required. Even so, in cases such as a device change, password update, or new authenticator setup, it is recommended to review your security settings.

Do I need to take additional action after reaching the Secure level?

You do not need to take any additional action when you reach the Secure level. The area at the top of the security settings screen shows the message "You have completed the recommended security steps" and your account is protected with all recommended verification methods. The only thing you need to be careful of is to consider the impact on your security level before disabling any verification method.
