What is the account security level and how to raise it

The security level of your Paribu account is evaluated in three tiers — Critical, Medium and Secure — based on the verification methods you have enabled. This indicator, which sits at the top of the Security settings screen, summarizes which of two-factor authentication, a passkey and biometric authentication are active.

What is the account security level?

The account security level is an indicator determined by the verification steps active on your Paribu account. It appears at the top of the Security settings screen with the Security level: prefix, followed by Critical, Medium or Secure. The progress bar next to it shows how many steps you have completed; the line below it names the next recommended step and takes you to that step's setup screen when you tap it.

The same information also appears as a short label on the Account and settings screen: Secure account if your account is secure, or Complete the steps if a step is missing.

How is the security level calculated?

The security level is calculated across three steps. Your level is determined by how many of them are active.

Step	What it does
Two-factor authentication (2FA)	The 6-digit code from your authentication app is used instead of SMS verification for operations that require a security step
Passkey	In the sign-in step you verify with your face, fingerprint or device password instead of typing a password
Biometric authentication	The app is unlocked with your device's Face ID or fingerprint feature

Level mapping:

Critical: None of the three steps is active
Medium: One or two of the three steps are active
Secure: All three steps are active

The progress bar shows the number of completed steps against the total. For example, if two steps are active the indicator reads 2/3.

Security levels and what they mean

Critical. None of the three steps is active. Only your password protects your account; if your password is compromised, no additional layer comes into play. In this case the recommendation Enable two-factor authentication to strengthen your account security. appears below the indicator.

Medium. One or two of the three steps are active. Your account has basic protection, but not all recommended steps are complete. The indicator suggests the next missing step: Enable a passkey to strengthen your account security. or Enable biometric authentication to strengthen your account security.

Secure. All three steps are active and your account is at the highest recommended protection level. The indicator reads You have completed the recommended security steps. When you disable one of the steps, the level drops automatically.

How can you raise your security level?

To raise your security level, you need to complete the steps that are not active yet. When all three are enabled, the level rises to Secure. There is no required order; you can start with whichever method is more convenient for you.

Set up two-factor authentication through an authentication app
Create a passkey on your device
Enable biometric authentication with your device's Face ID or fingerprint feature

When you complete a step, your security level is updated automatically; you do not need to take any further action.

Note: Setting up two-factor authentication first is recommended. This step protects not only sign-in but also operations that require a security step, such as crypto asset withdrawals and password changes, with the code from your authentication app instead of SMS.

Which screen shows my security level?

Follow these steps to view your security level:

Tap the menu icon in the top left of the screen to open the Account section
Tap Account and settings
Tap Security settings
Your security level and the progress bar appear at the top of the screen
If there is a next recommended step, tap the recommendation line to move on to its setup screen

Frequently asked questions

What happens when my security level changes?

Your security level is updated automatically based on the steps you enable or disable. For example, when you disable two-factor authentication, your number of completed steps drops by one, the level is recalculated, and that step is listed again as a "recommended step" in the indicator.

Is being at the Secure level enough for crypto asset withdrawals?

The Secure level means you have completed all recommended steps. That said, operations such as crypto asset withdrawals can require a separate verification regardless of your security level; which verification is requested depends on the transaction and your account settings. If two-factor authentication is active, that verification is done with the code from your authentication app instead of SMS.

Are passkeys also used for crypto asset withdrawals?

No. Passkeys are used only in the sign-in step. For the verification of operations such as crypto asset withdrawals and password changes, SMS, email or the code from your authentication app is requested.

Do I need to check my security level regularly?

Because your security level is updated automatically along with your steps, regular checks are not required. Even so, reviewing your security settings after a device change, a password update or a new authentication app setup is recommended.

Do I need to do anything after reaching the Secure level?

No, no further action is needed. The indicator shows the message You have completed the recommended security steps. The only thing to keep in mind is to consider the effect on your security level before disabling any verification method.
