Biometric authentication is a security feature that lets you sign in to your Paribu account quickly and securely using the security method set up on your device (Face ID or fingerprint). You turn the setting on or off in the Biometric authentication section on the Security settings screen.
To enable biometric authentication in the Paribu app, tap Biometric authentication on the Security settings screen and switch on the row on the screen that opens. If Face ID or a fingerprint is set up on your device, the feature is enabled within a few seconds.
Note: On iOS devices, a system permission is requested the first time you enable it: Allow "Paribu" to use Face ID? You need to allow it to continue.
When you try to switch it on while Face ID or a fingerprint is not set up on your device, a screen titled Enable biometric login opens: "Please enable the biometric feature from your device settings to use biometric authentication on Paribu."
The Open settings button takes you straight to your device settings; Later lets you postpone this step. Once you have completed the biometric setup on your device, you can return to Paribu and switch it on.
While biometric authentication is enabled, a lock screen appears when you open the app and, depending on your device's method, it reads Tap to unlock with Face ID or Tap to unlock with your fingerprint. When you tap it, your device's verification screen takes over.
After too many unsuccessful attempts in a row, your device locks biometrics temporarily. In that case the screen shows Biometric authentication could not be completed with this description: "Biometric authentication is locked due to too many incorrect attempts. Unlock your device to try again." Once you unlock your device with your own passcode, biometric authentication works again.
You can turn biometric authentication off whenever you want. Follow these steps to turn it off:
Warning: When you turn biometric authentication off, the number of steps counted in your security level drops by one and your level is recalculated.
On Paribu, your account security is evaluated across three steps: two-factor authentication, a passkey and biometric authentication.
| Level | Condition |
|---|---|
| Critical | None of the three steps is active |
| Medium | One or two of the three steps are active |
| Secure | All three steps are active |
Biometric authentication is one of these three steps. For details, you can check the What is the account security level and how to raise it article.
No, biometric authentication is optional. If you want to raise your account security level to Secure, you need to enable two-factor authentication, a passkey and biometric authentication together.
Biometric authentication unlocks the app with your device's Face ID or fingerprint feature when you open it; the setting belongs to your device. A passkey is a verification method linked to your Paribu account and takes the place of your password in the sign-in step. The two are enabled separately and counted as separate steps in your security level.
No. Biometric authentication unlocks the app; your password stays on your account and is used for operations such as changing your password.
First check that your biometric record is active in your device system settings. If it is locked after too many unsuccessful attempts, unlocking your device with your own passcode is enough. If Face ID or a fingerprint is set up and the problem continues, try turning biometric authentication off and on again.
