What is a passkey?
A passkey is a security method that lets you sign in to your Paribu account using your face, your fingerprint or your device password instead of typing a password. It is created on your device and linked to your account.
What does a passkey do?
A passkey is both faster and stronger than a password. The introduction screen in the app highlights two benefits:
- Speed up your transactions — You easily verify your identity using your face, fingerprint or device password
- Protect your account — A passkey enhances your account security and protects your information from unauthorized access
Because your password never has to be typed on screen, the risk of it being seen over your shoulder or entered on a fake screen disappears.
Where is a passkey used?
A passkey is used in the sign-in step. If you have a passkey on your account, the Signing in with passkey screen opens during sign-in and your device's own verification screen takes over.
Passkeys are not used for other operations that require a security step, such as crypto asset withdrawals or password changes. Those operations request SMS, email or the code from your two-factor authentication app.
Note: If sign-in with a passkey cannot be completed, the screen shows Passkey sign-in could not be completed. Try again retries it, and Use a different method lets you continue signing in with your password and your other verification methods.
How does a passkey affect your security level?
On Paribu, your account security is evaluated across three steps: two-factor authentication, a passkey and biometric authentication.

Things to know
- Only one passkey is registered per device. If you try to create a second passkey on the same device, the message You already have a passkey for this device appears
- You can create a separate passkey on more than one device; all of them are listed on the Passkeys screen
- The Device name you give a passkey can be at least 3 and at most 40 characters
- You can rename or delete a passkey whenever you want
- Some devices do not support passkeys; in that case the message This device does not support passkeys. appears
Frequently asked questions
Is a passkey mandatory?
No, a passkey is optional. You can skip this step with the Later option on the introduction screen. If you want to raise your account security level to Secure, you need to enable two-factor authentication, a passkey and biometric authentication together.
Does a passkey replace my password?
No, it does not replace your password. A passkey is an option added to the sign-in step; your password stays on your account and is used for operations such as changing your password.
I changed my device, what happens to my passkey?
A passkey is tied to the device it was created on. You can create a new passkey on your new device and delete the passkey belonging to your old device from the Passkeys screen.
Are a passkey and biometric authentication the same thing?
No. Biometric authentication unlocks the app with your device's Face ID or fingerprint feature when you open it. A passkey is a verification method linked to your Paribu account and takes the place of your password in the sign-in step. The two are enabled separately.
