How to disable two-factor authentication (2FA)

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an important layer that enhances the security of your Paribu account. When you switch to a new device or lose access to your authenticator app, you may need to temporarily disable 2FA and set it up again.

How is two-factor authentication (2FA) disabled?

To disable 2FA on Paribu, click the 2-factor authentication item on the Security settings page, click the Disable button in the confirmation window that opens, and complete verification by entering your account password. Once the action is complete, the 2FA code is no longer requested when you sign in or during security-sensitive actions.

Before you start

• Make sure you know your Paribu account password
• Keep in mind that your security level will drop once 2FA is disabled

Disable 2FA

1. Open Paribu.com and hover over the profile icon at the top right
2. Click Security settings in the menu that appears
3. In the Security steps section, click 2-factor authentication
4. In the 2-step authentication preference is active window that opens, click the Disable button
5. Enter your password and click the Continue button

Warning: When 2FA is disabled, your security level drops. If you are switching to a new authenticator app, it is recommended to set up 2FA again immediately after disabling it.

What changes after 2FA is disabled?

Once 2FA is turned off, the following actions request the SMS verification code sent to your registered phone number instead of the Google Authenticator code:

• Signing in to Paribu
• Confirming a crypto asset withdrawal
• Verification before changing your password
• Changes to security settings

The Security level indicator on the Security settings page looks at two steps on the web: 2-factor authentication and passkey. When you turn off 2FA, the number of completed steps drops, so your level falls from Secure to Medium — and to Critical if you do not have a passkey either.

Will disabling 2FA trigger a crypto asset withdrawal restriction?

No. The 48-hour crypto asset withdrawal restriction only applies after a password change or a password reset. Disabling 2FA does not trigger this restriction.

Can I create an API key while 2FA is off?

No. Google Authenticator verification is requested in the API key creation flow; if 2FA is off, the flow redirects you to the Google Authenticator setup window.

How to disable two-factor authentication (2FA)

To disable 2FA on Paribu, tap Two-factor authentication on the Security settings screen, select Disable on the screen that opens, enter your password, and complete the action by entering the 6-digit code generated by Google Authenticator. This action requires both your password and your verification code.

Before you start

• You need access to your Paribu entry in the Google Authenticator app — the code generated by that app is requested in the final step
• You need to know your Paribu password
• Keep in mind that your security level drops when 2FA is disabled

Disable 2FA

1. Tap the menu icon in the top left of the screen to open the Account section
2. Tap Account and settings
3. Tap Security settings
4. Under Security steps, tap Two-factor authentication
5. On the Two-factor authentication is active screen that opens, tap Disable
6. Enter your password and tap Remove Google Authenticator
7. On the Two-step verification screen, enter the 6-digit code Google Authenticator generates for Paribu and confirm the action

Do not let the final button reading Complete setup confuse you: this screen is used both in the setup flow and in the disable flow, so the button label does not change — you need to tap it while disabling as well. When the action is complete you return to the Security settings screen and the switch on the Two-factor authentication row appears off.

Warning: Your security level drops when 2FA is disabled. If you are moving to a new authentication app, setting 2FA up again right after disabling it is recommended.

What changes after 2FA is disabled?

After 2FA is turned off, the SMS verification code sent to your registered phone number is requested instead of the Google Authenticator code for operations that require a security step. These include signing in, changing and resetting your password, and crypto asset withdrawals that require verification.

Your security level is determined by how many of three steps you have completed: two-factor authentication, a passkey and biometric authentication.
