Blocked balance is the amount in your Paribu account that is temporarily closed to use due to ongoing actions. It can stem from open orders, your assets in the staking pool, ongoing transfers, or Travel Rule checks. The blocked amount is not lost; once the related action is complete, it is automatically reflected in your available balance.
On Paribu, your balance is shown under two main headings: available balance and blocked balance. Available balance is the amount you can use freely for actions. Blocked balance refers to the amount temporarily closed to use due to ongoing actions. Your total balance is the sum of these two.
When you tap the info icon next to the available balance, the Available balance screen opens; here your available balance is shown divided into two sub-categories:
Note: The blocked balance applies to both TRY and crypto assets. You can view the blocked balance breakdown of each asset separately
Blocked balance can stem from four different situations: open orders, staked assets, ongoing transfer processes, and Travel Rule checks. You see the amount allocated for each situation as separate rows in the blocked balance detail.
This is the amount allocated for your pending limit or stop orders in trading actions. When the order is filled, the relevant asset is reflected in your account; when you cancel the order, the allocated amount is returned to your available balance.
Shows the assets locked in the staking pool. When the reward earning period ends and the stake is released, the amount is transferred to your available balance.
These are amounts awaiting confirmation during a crypto asset withdrawal, an internal transfer, or a TRY withdrawal action. When the transfer is complete, the amount reaches the recipient address or bank account. In case of a refund, the amount is reflected back to your available balance.
Shows the amount temporarily closed to use because of a security rule or a legal check. The two most common reasons are:
If you have a transfer awaiting a Travel Rule statement, you can complete the statement by opening the detail of the relevant asset from the Wallet tab. For details, see the What is the Travel Rule and why is it required for crypto transfers? article.
You can view the blocked balance breakdown from the detail screen of each asset. Select the relevant asset from your asset list on the Wallet tab and tap the info icon next to the Blocked balance row. On the screen that opens, the reasons for the lock are listed as Open orders, Staked, Transfers, and Locked rows.
Note: On crypto asset details, the same breakdown is shown as quantities; you can find the Available quantity and Blocked quantity rows in the status section of the asset's detail screen
The release time of the blocked balance varies depending on the reason it occurred. The table below summarizes the release condition for each category.
| Category | Release condition |
|---|---|
| Open orders | When the order is filled or canceled |
| Staked | When the reward earning period ends |
| Transfers | When the network confirmation or bank transfer is complete |
| Locked | When the waiting period ends or the Travel Rule statement is complete |
When you cannot withdraw because of a waiting period, the message This withdrawal has a hold period appears on the screen. This screen shows your total balance, your available balance, the held amount, and a Time until unlock countdown. By tapping the Notify me when time is up button, you can choose to be informed when the hold is released.
Note: When the amount is released, it is automatically reflected in your available balance; you do not need to take any additional action
No, the blocked amount cannot be used until the related action or waiting period is complete. If the block stems from an open order, when you cancel that order, the amount returns to your available balance and you can transact again.
The reward earning period and early release conditions vary by staking pool. You can review detailed information on the asset's earn screen.
If you have more than one open order, ongoing transfer, or staking action, the blocked amount can accumulate. You can review which source is blocking how much amount from the blocked balance detail.
In this case the reason for the block is most likely a waiting period or an incomplete Travel Rule statement. If you need to provide sender details for a transfer arriving in your account, you can remove the block by completing the statement from the detail screen of the relevant asset.
The non-withdrawable balance is the amount you have earned through gifts and campaigns. This amount appears as a separate category under your available balance and can be used for trading and earn actions in the app; however, it cannot be withdrawn to your bank account or an external crypto wallet for the period stated in the campaign terms, and it is released when that period ends. You can see the breakdown of your withdrawable and non-withdrawable balance by tapping the info icon next to your available balance. For details, see the What is the gift balance in my account and how can I use it? article.
