What are the 72 and 48 hour waiting periods?

Do you need to wait before you can send (withdraw) crypto after depositing or buying it? Yes: after each new purchase or deposit, the related balance is subject to a 48 hour waiting period, and the first crypto withdrawal from your account is subject to a 72 hour waiting period. These periods stem from the regulations in force and are intended to protect your assets.

What is the 72 hour waiting period?

The 72 hour waiting period is a waiting period applied under legal regulations on the first crypto withdrawal request from your Paribu account. During this period the related balance is treated as locked and the withdrawal is not completed; once the period ends, you can repeat the withdrawal steps.

In which cases is a waiting period applied?

Waiting periods come into effect in three different cases:

• First crypto withdrawal: When you withdraw crypto assets from your account for the first time, a 72 hour waiting period is applied.
• Subsequent withdrawals: After every purchase or deposit, a 48 hour waiting period is applied to the balance you wish to withdraw.
• After a password, email, or phone number change: For security reasons, crypto asset withdrawals are paused for 48 hours.

Waiting periods are applied to every user without exception in order to protect account security and ensure compliance with legal regulations.

72 hours after the first crypto withdrawal

Under the regulations in force, on the first crypto withdrawal request from your account, the related balance is held as locked for 72 hours. This period starts after the related purchase or deposit transaction.

When the period ends, the withdrawal does not happen automatically; you need to repeat the withdrawal steps.

48 hours on subsequent withdrawals

After your first withdrawal is completed, the related balance is held as locked for 48 hours after every new purchase or deposit made into your account.

48 hours after a password, email, or phone number change

When you change your account password, email address, or phone number, crypto asset withdrawals are paused for 48 hours for security reasons. This restriction is applied to prevent assets from being moved quickly in case of unauthorised access and covers all crypto assets.

When the 48 hour period ends, the restriction is lifted automatically; no additional action is required.

How can I track the waiting period?

You can see the balance subject to a waiting period and the remaining time on the crypto withdrawal screen. When entering the withdrawal amount, your balance is shown in two parts: withdrawable balance and locked balance. When you tap the info icon next to the locked balance, a screen titled Waiting period in progress opens.

This screen contains the following information:

• Your total balance
• Withdrawable balance
• Balance locked for 72 hours
• Time remaining until the waiting period ends (countdown in hours, minutes, seconds)

If you would like to be notified when the waiting period ends, you can use the Notify me when the period ends option on the same screen.

Can the waiting period be skipped?

Waiting periods are set under the regulations in force; they cannot be shortened or canceled through Paribu Support.

Warning: Trying to create the same withdrawal request again while the waiting period is in progress will not make the transaction complete any faster. You can track the countdown on the withdrawal screen and restart the withdrawal steps once the period ends.

Frequently asked questions

Does the waiting period apply only to certain crypto assets?

No. Waiting periods apply to all crypto assets traded on Paribu. For stablecoins, daily and monthly withdrawal limits are applied additionally; these limits are independent of the waiting period.

Does the transaction happen automatically when the waiting period ends?

No. When the period ends, the locked balance is added to the withdrawable balance, but the withdrawal is not triggered automatically. You need to restart the withdrawal steps.

Can I withdraw a different asset once the waiting period ends?

The waiting period runs separately for each crypto asset and starts with the purchase or deposit of that asset. When the period for one asset ends, only that asset becomes withdrawable; any other asset has its own waiting period. If you sell the waiting asset and buy a new one with the proceeds, the waiting period starts again for the new asset.

Why can I not see my locked balance?

If your account does not have a balance subject to a waiting period, the locked balance row is not shown. After a new purchase or deposit, the locked balance display becomes visible on the withdrawal screen of the related asset.
