DevConnect—the most comprehensive global event in the Ethereum ecosystem in 2023—took place in Istanbul from November 13 to 19.
The ETH Day event marked the start of DevConnect Istanbul at the Istanbul Congress Center. The day opened with a keynote by Vitalik Buterin, Co-founder of Ethereum, titled “Ethereum in 30 Minutes,” followed by a series of talks and parallel workshop sessions. More than 3,500 members of the Ethereum ecosystem and international communities gathered at Devconnect Cowork over the course of the week. Participants attended over 70 industry-focused events organized by independent teams from within the Ethereum community, along with nearly 200 side events and networking sessions. As part of the bustling DevConnect week, Paribu Hub teamed up with Merkezsiz to host the d:pact conference.
What is d:pact?
d:pact, launched in early 2023 with Merkezsiz, combines community meetups and a podcast series to explore how Web3 intersects with social, cultural, and ecological issues—while connecting professionals active in these spaces. With content contributions from d:pact, Token Engineering Academy, Regens Unite, and Funding the Commons, DevConnect Istanbul transformed into a truly international conference throughout the week.
Topics of discussion
The event began with an opening panel held at Yapı Kredi bomontiada on November 15, followed by a presentation from Marek Olszewski, Co-Founder at Celo and CEO at cLabs, titled “Accelerating the ReFi Movement with Ultragreen Money.” In his talk, Olszewski highlighted the real-world impact of projects within the Celo ecosystem.
We hosted Stani Kulechov, Founder and CEO at Aave, in a panel discussion titled “The Future of Decentralized Social,” moderated by Maggie Love, Founder at SheFi.
In the panel titled “Navigating the Turkish Crypto and Blockchain Landscape,” our Paribu teammates Semih Sercan Erkul and Nergis Nurcan Karababa explored key trends and developments shaping the cryptocurrency and blockchain ecosystem in Türkiye.
The day concluded with a talk by Mark Tyneway, Co-Founder at Optimism, who introduced the retroPGF mechanism—a model designed to balance meaningful impact with financial return.
Alongside the main stage sessions at d:pact—held in partnership with Merkezsiz—we hosted additional workshops and side sessions in two different halls. In the workshops co-hosted with our content partners, we explored topics such as token engineering, restorative movements, impact investing strategies, and evaluation methods. Bringing together more than 40 speakers, we set out to explore the intersection of Web3 and blockchain with the social, cultural, and ecological issues that define our agenda.
The opportunity to engage with hundreds of companies, developers, investors, and technology enthusiasts from the Ethereum ecosystem, while organizing d:pact, made the week a highly rewarding experience for all of us.
