Yasin Oral, the CEO of Paribu and İsmail Hakkı Polat, an academician answered the questions of Savaş Önemli in the live broadcast of Digital Age.
In the program where the effects of Covid-19 on the cryptocurrency market were discussed, Yasin Oral stated that the interest in cryptocurrencies had increased during the pandemic. Oral said, “While our daily average transaction volume was $12 million last year, it is $30 million today. Our daily transaction volume sometimes goes up to $50 – $60 million. We ranked first on the list of global platforms in certain markets. Here, the pandemic has played a pivotal role”.
Oral said, “Covid-19 has had a direct effect on the digital world and shopping websites”. Oral indicated that companies that had not taken any action so far even though they were aware of the importance of digitalization were forced to focus on digitalization with the outbreak of the pandemic. He added that the steps they had taken produced positive outcomes.
On the other hand, İsmail Hakkı Polat pointed out that blockchain solutions had come into prominence with the pandemic, and he also emphasized that blockchain would offer innovative solutions to various business mechanisms around the world because of its structure, which is both transparent and protects the anonymity of its users.
Polat drew attention to the concerns about hygiene and physical contact which have appeared with the “new normal” and argued that the longer the pandemic remains with us, the more permanent the effects of this new normal would be.
